1956 Single Cab, Original Paint Patina Driver!
Here's one for
all the patina lovers, a very cool, early, and perfectly sun faded Dove
Blue 1956 Single Cab Pickup Truck in fully running and driving
condition. For many enthusiasts, there is no substitute for original
paint and those natural wear patterns that come with 54 years of life.
It's certainly not for everybody, but then neither are plastic surgery
and breast augmentation but that's another story...
This early truck
has a long list of cool features including original pressed bumpers,
brakelight decklid, original SBL17 dual filament bubble taillights,
ambulance fan, single cab roof rack, crankstart handle, original front
hoop, and new interior as well as updated mechanicals with a 1600 dual
port, Big Nut transaxle, all new brake system, fresh white stripe
radial tires, and much more. It has been fully gone through and is
ready for fun.
The
body is in fair to good shape with some localized rust in the normal
areas you'd expect to see on a old Truck of this era, mainly the
rockers, upper dogleg triangle, and a couple other small spots you'll
see in the pics. The front floor is rock solid, rear bed is nice and
strong, belly floor is nice too with a small hole worth mentioning as
well. The gates are pretty good with some typical fatigue tears at the
hinges and some slight bowing from end to end. They function well and
are certainly fine as they are. The lower drivers nose has some light
wrinkling and it seems that the dogleg was replaced long ago with
another original paint early dogleg. The welding there was more for
function than beauty but it is solid and gets the job done. All of the
body components are correct, pressed bumpers, decklid, doglegs,
taillights, crankstart rear apron, early pull handle doors, etc. The
real beauty is that there's nothing hiding on this Truck, its original
paint status lets you see its honest history.
The
interior is in great shape with original paint throughout including the
uncut dash, freshly and correctly upholstered black bench seat, new
grey pressed board paneling, and a brand new Wolfsburg West floor mat.
The original ambulance fan works but could benefit from servicing as it
spins slowly and the light comes on some of the time. Overall the cab
is very presentable, totally stock, and just the way it's supposed to
be.
The owner runs a Volkswagen shop and built this truck to use
as his shop truck so he went through all systems to get it ready for
action. Mechanically it features a desirable and very roadworthy combo
of a good running 1600 dual port engine and a 46mm Big Nut transaxle.
In addition it has had a 12 volt electrical system conversion and a
completely rebuilt brake system including master, wheel cylinders,
shoes, rubber hoses, and even the metal lines are new. The trans does
weep a bit of oil at the side plates so that will be something to
address at some point. The tires are fresh white stripe radials
mounted on correct silver white painted 15 inch Bus wheels and topped
off with grey commercial hubcaps. It is very roadworthy and is a great
vintage Truck to use proudly as it is.
