1957 Oval Ragtop, Clean Resto Cal
Driver!
Here is a clean and very presentable Oval Ragtop Beetle
that has been nicely refreshed a handful of years back, lightly
customized, and features a upgraded 1641cc engine, old school style
pinstriping, lowered suspension, and a beautiful and faithfully restored
interior from West Coast Classics. This early Ragtop is ready to enjoy!
The
body has always been very dry and solid and you can still
see the original factory undercoating underneath! The icepick handled
doors, bullet fenders, flat hood, W decklid, both aprons including the
rear H pattern are all correct for the car as well. The rear clip was
replaced years ago prior to the restoration work. The paint job is very
nice and mildly custom and features the previously mentioned old school
pinstriping. There are some light stone chips around but the
presentation is still very nice. The sunroof cover is in good shape and
is a quality canvas unit. Additionally all of the window and door
seals were replaced at the time of the paint work. Other custom touches
include the European bumpers, painted billet running boards, tinted
windows, and European fluted headlight lenses.
The interior is
very nice and clean and came from the skilled guys at West Coast
Classics. It is very faithful to the original style and features a
proper mohair headliner,
original style door panels, seat covers, German square weave
carpeting, and reproduction rubber mats. The dash is very clean,
uncut, and features a Motorola Volumatic pushbutton radio that fills the
space nicely but is currently not working.
Mechanically this
Oval has a good running and torquey 1641cc engine that was built by
Painter's Grinding in Denver, Colorado. All of the tin has been nicely
powder coated and the engine also features a Bosch 009 distributor and a
new carburetor. The transaxle is a 1967 unit which makes a great
combination with the slightly larger engine and this Oval scoots along
nicely on the freeway. The suspension is lowered with use of a
adjustable beam and dropped spindles. The electrical system has also
been converted to 12 volt for quicker starts, additional reliability,
and brighter lights as well. The only mechanical complaint would be
that the steering is a bit loose, possibly making an adjustment on the
box will help tighten it up a
bit. Other than that, it runs and drives nicely and looks very nice
doing it! Thanks!
