1957 Standard Microbus, Original Paint, Very Cool Driver!
Here we have a super cool and mostly original L311/L312 Palm Green over
Sand Green paint Standard Microbus that is turnkey and ready for
action. It has an awesome natural fade, all the proper early Soft Green
seats, interior panels, and reliable running gear including a 1600 dual
port, stock split case Bus transaxle, and it's been converted to 12
volt as well.
The body is in fair shape and is generally
straight with some bonks and scrapes that you'd expect to find on a 54
year old survivor Bus. The nose saw some respray many years ago as well
as a spot on the rear of the long panel and part of the passenger's
rear corner, too. It has all of the proper doors, original pressed
bumpers that have been resprayed, the correct flat decklid, original
crankstart apron, both correct fat base mirror arms, and even the 15
inch Bus wheels are still wearing original Palm Green and Sand Green
paint! The decklid hinges are a little bit wonky but still work fine.
It does have some rust including both rockers, spots on the doglegs, the
front floor mainly on the passenger's side, the forward edge of the
cargo floor, and spots of the cargo floor just above the jack points.
The approximately 200 pics in the link down below will give you a very
good idea of what the issues are. All of the glass with the exception
of the passenger's rear and windshields are original Sigla, too.
The interior is very original with proper early Soft Green seats, interior panels, and original
rubber floor mats,
too. The front seat cover is a bit ratty, the middle is very nice, and
the rear has been restitched and is presentable. The interior panels
are a bit ratty in some places but very cool for a survivor driver and
include the bulkhead grab handle. The original mohair headliner is long
gone. The dash has strong original Sand Green paint and looks nice.
The radio block off plate is still intact, too. The Bus had safari
windows in it at one point and the brackets are still there.
Additionally the tops of the window frames had the screw plates
installed to resemble a factory safari window installation (see the pics
below). A set of Wolfsburg West shoulder harness style seat belts were
also installed for safety.
The Bus is very enjoyable as it is but a new owner may want to improve the
interior with the installation of a proper mohair headliner.
Mechanically, the Bus features a good running 1600 dual port engine,
stock split case/non-synchronized first gear transaxle, the brakes work
well, and the electrical has been converted to 12 volts for quicker
starts, brighter lights, and added reliability. The trans may chirp a
bit when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but if you pause for a split second
before shifting it shifts cleanly. It has a recent Optima gel cell
battery, held down by an original battery strap. The tires are radials
with good tread and they are mounted on stock Green on Green 15 inch Bus
wheels and topped with original chrome hubcaps with painted logos.
Everything works including blinkers, wipers, dome lights, and the
speedo. It is a very peppy Bus and moves along very well as you can see
in the video clips...
