SOLD! 1957 Standard Microbus, Palm Green over Sand Green, Very Clean and Stylish Cruiser!
** This Bus just had a freshly built $1,500
performance transaxle from Rancho installed at Old Speed. The owner
also had them do a thorough service including tune up, valve
adjustment, oil change, lube, 4 wheel alignment, minor suspension
adjustments, and a new steering wheel and horn button to make it even a
far better value. The price has also been lowered by $3,000 so coupling
those improvements and price drop that is translating to a ~$5,000
price discount. You will never build a Bus this nice with the
performance upgrades and extras this offers for less!
This
early 1957 Standard Microbus has been built in a very tasteful and
traditional California style and makes an impression with both beauty
and attitude. It has all the classic ingredients to produce a
extremely respectable and desirable Bus, early pressed bumper model,
beautiful paint and body, properly lowered suspension, Porsche 944 disc
brakes, Al Reed restored and paint detailed genuine Porsche Fuchs
alloys, safari windows, all 3 correct early seats, a stout 1776 cc
engine with dual carbs, ceramic coated A1 exhaust system, Gene Berg
locking shifter, and 1956 California license plates.
The paint
and body are extremely nice, not perfect, but are fresh and extremely
respectable as you can see from the pics. The body was completely bare
metaled as this was a thorough rotisserie job. It is painted the
correct Palm Green over Sand Green (L311/L312) scheme which is
positively one of the most beautiful and most loved combinations that
Volkswagen ever produced. All of the body components are correct,
pressed bumpers, doors, doglegs, brakelight decklid, crankstart apron,
etc. The taillights are new Argentinian reproduction bubbles and are
very nice. The Bus had a set of genuine 1955-1958 European semaphore
Bus taillights installed where the reflectors would have resided at one
point but they serve the same function as the reflectors would have and
work as well. One of the decklid hinges has broken free from the
decklid in the typical fashion as well and will require repair or
replacement, trivial, but worth the mention. Overall an extremely
attractive Bus that is far prettier than most from the pressed bumper
generation.
The
interior is fresh, clean, and includes all 3 correct seats. The seat
covers and door panels are from TMI and are technically correct for a
1959-1961 Mango Green and Seagull Grey Standard Microbus. The middle
seat grab bars and headliner are not installed but will be included in
the sale of the Bus. A set of either West Coast Classics or Octavio's
door panels and seat covers would put this Bus over the top if someone
wanted to bring it to that higher level. The good news is that the
hard to find correct seats are already present which makes that goal
much easier.
Mechanically
this Bus has had thousands spent dialing it in to a very high
standard. It has been properly and professionally lowered by the
knowledgeable and well respected guys at Old Speed. The beam is a KCW
4" narrowed with adjusters, dropped spindles, and a very pricey set of
Porsche 944 disc brakes which make it stop on a dime. The rear is
lowered with a straight axle setup as well. The engine is a fresh and
stout 1776 cc with dual Dellorto carbs with polished manifolds and
linkage, a alternator, Bosch 009 distributor, Bosch blue coil, aluminum
degree pulley, and a very nice and expensive ceramic coated A1 exhaust
system which looks and sounds awesome. The Bus has also been converted
to 12 volts and features a Optima gel cell battery for added
reliability. The wheels are a set of freshly refinished and super
spendy genuine Porsche Fuchs alloys done up by the legendary Al Reed.
This Bus is setup for driveability and style both being low, quick,
having an aggressive stance, and having both balls and stopping power.
It
attended the VW Classics in Irvine, California last June and I had more
than one serious top level Bus collector come up to me and say "Damn
that Green on Green is cool, whose is it?" It makes a good impression
to say the least. SOLD!
