1958 23 Window Patina!

1958 23 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus with Awesome Patina Sealing Wax Red and Chestnut Brown, Super Solid and Cool Bus!

Here is an extremely cool early 23 Window that was recently awoken after being in storage on the West coast since the late 1970's.  It is very dry, has survived far better than most early 23's, and it will certainly appeal to those who love patina.  It is important to recognize that this is an original German sheet metal Bus, not one that has 20 to 30% or more of replacement sheet metal or needing tens of thousands of dollars in welding work.

The body is in good condition and has an awesome natural fade appearance although it was resprayed on the exterior in the original colors of Sealing Was Red and Chestnut Brown.  Most people who see the Bus immediately have the impression that it is the original paint as the fade is convincing.  All of the doors, thick lipped doglegs, flat wheel wells, flat decklid, crankstart apron, high-mounted glass taillights, outie vents with Deluxe trim, aluminum belt line and rocker trim, pressed bumpers with Deluxe trim, etc. are correct and original!  There are a few small spots of rust including the front wheel well closeouts, the cargo floor, and some small pinholes in the front floor corners and belly pans.  Additionally the battery tray was replaced with a generic replacement years ago but works well as it is.  Pressed bumper 23 Windows with this solid of original German metal are few and far between here in 2015.

The interior is a big strength of the Bus and has a lot of originality to it including the paint, all three correct and original upholstery seats, and the super nice original panels as well.  Some of the seams are starting to come loose on the seats in the typical way and the mohair headliner was recently replaced and looks nice and tight.  Other interior details to note include the nice original paint dash, the early Deluxe clock with the winder on the backside, the early Blaupunkt radio, polished aluminum jail bars, and the original early bulkhead grab handle just to name a few.

Mechanically the Bus is a driver and features include a low mileage rebuilt 36hp engine, full synchro transaxle, 6 volt electrical system, stock suspension, and original 15 inch Bus wheels with original Deluxe trim rings and a nice set of Firestone 6.40-15 bias ply tires as well.

Overall this is a very cool and genuine early 23 Window that is impressively complete, exceptionally solid, and is in a condition that you can feel comfortable to actually drive.  Thanks!
