1958 Euro Convertible!

1958 European Convertible Beetle Project, Semaphores!

Here's a cool, fun, and affordable mild project that certainly won't last too long.  The father of the owner "redid" the car about 20 years ago, decided to paint it like a Hebmuller he'd seen, and it has been standing in storage for most of the last 17 years, between his barn, and most recently, his daughter's garage.  The work he did was not top notch, was more of "driver" quality, but there's no doubt that guys with some vision can see the path to making a very fun car out of this one!

Some of the many features include:

* Original European Spec with Semaphore Turn Signals
* 1963 40hp Engine
* Reproduction Foxcraft Fender Skirts
* European Locking Steering Column
* Reproduction Petri Banjo Steering Wheel with Greek lady horn button
* Mohair Headliner
* Newer Convertible Top
* Correct Convertible Rear View Mirror and Visor Assembly

The car was originally grey with a red interior but he preferred to replicate the look of the Hebmuller he'd seen so went with the brown and tan two-tone.  The paint is about 20 years old and is showing its age with chips, nicks, scratches, dings, some peeling, cracking filler, and rust mainly down low near the running boards, on the floor pan, and in the battery area where there is some full perforation.  The car could easily be touched up, polished, patched around the battery tray, and enjoyed as a decent looking driver without a big financial investment.  Other details to note include the snowflake taillights, icepick doors, and the correct early Convertible engine lid, too.

The interior is fairly clean, mildly custom, and the carpeting, door panels, seat upholstery, and mohair headliner were replaced when the car was redone about 20 years ago.  It needs a little finishing but isn't bad for a driver.  Cool details to note include the reproduction Petri Banjo Steering Wheel, Greek lady horn button, European locking steering column, original radio block off plate in the dash, chrome Convertible hood lock, and the correct Convertible Rear View Mirror and Sunvisor assembly as well.

Mechanically the car will need a thorough going through and revival as it's been off the road for some years.  Expect to do tires, brakes, fuel system, tuning, and general servicing as well.  It was a driving car when parked but it has been in storage for years so some "wake up" work is necessary.  The 1963 40hp engine spins, was running a while back, and the front beam, transaxle, and wheels are correct for the car as well.  Additionally it was converted to 12 volt electrics long ago.

Overall this is a cool early Convertible that isn't a creme puff and it's not a junker either.  With some vision and TLC with a new owner, this one could turn into a fun and relatively inexpensive driver, or would be a good candidate for an eventual restoration somewhere down the line.  It comes with a clear Oklahoma Title in the owner's name.  Thanks!
