1958 Single Cab OG Paint

1958 Single Cab, Dove Blue Original Paint Survivor!

Here is a very cool pressed bumper Single Cab that was originally a farm Truck in California, has been a well-cared-for example, and is very much the type of Truck most of us would love to own.  Without a doubt, this one is nicer than most original examples of its kind.

This Truck was originally delivered to Los Angeles, California when new, lived there until the early 2000's when it was purchased by a Bus collector, had extensive preservation work and servicing done at that time, has been driven very sparingly over the years, comes with the original tool roll and hand crank, and actually recently passed its New Hampshire state inspection, although it could use some shake down servicing as it hasn't been a regular driver for some years.  Additionally the Birth Certificate from Volkswagen and the hoops and canvas canopy are included in the sale.

The body on this Truck is certainly above average for an unrestored example.  It does have some bumps, bruises, and small spots of rust, but most guys in the hobby would be plenty proud to drive it much the way it is.  The body is displaying over 80% of the original L31 Dove Blue paint and it will hold a nice shine after a couple passes of polish.  It did receive some preservation work in the early 2000's which included the rear corners, inner rockers, lower rear apron, and the treasure chest door, too.  The work is nice and keeps a consistent look of the whole Truck.  Details to note include both original Truck pressed bumpers in great shape, the correct doors, later 1958 decklid, crankstart apron, correct fat lip doglegs, etc.  The underside is impressively dry and shows of its time in the dry California climate.  The canvas is a reproduction and is nice as well.

The interior is exceptionally original from the paint, the grey pressed board panels, the black seat upholstery, and the front floor mat, too.  It's got a very time capsule feel about it and an old "mileage minder/service log" is still in place on the sun visor.  Everything has a cool patina and normal wear for a 60 year old work Truck including a crack in one of the headliner panels, a chunk of the original early front floor mat is missing on the driver's side, and there is some surface rust and tiny perforation on the original front floor, too.  Overall it looks great for a patina Truck and is still very faithful to the way it has looked since it left the factory 6 decades ago.

Mechanically it is a runner and driver, passed that recent New Hampshire inspection, but should see some general servicing and maintenance before it's a reliable daily driver.  It was in good operational order a few years ago and has been standing in a dry barn for a while now, hence the recommendation for a general shake down.  Details to note include the 36hp engine with the crank start system and custom muffler, the split case reduction box transaxle, 6 volt electrical system, and it has a set of 15 inch radial tires with good tread although they are some years old now.  The manual choke works, it fires right up, and there is sometimes a small rattle (not a knock) at higher RPMs when it's cold, although it only happens once in a while.  A little TLC should bring this Truck back to full driver status.  We have a few videos of the Truck running to share with seriously interested parties, too.

Here's your chance to get a very respectable and enjoyable early Truck that has never been abused.  Thanks!
