1959 European Ragtop

1959 Fjord Blue European Ragtop Beetle, Semaphores, Cool Driver

This fun model 117 Deluxe Beetle Sedan with factory Sunroof was produced on December 11, 1958 and left the Volkswagen factory the following day for Nuremberg, Germany.  It spent many years there, later lived in France, made its way to Belgium, and two years ago it was purchased by the current collector owner who resides in Utah.

During his ownership he has given it a servicing including replacing almost the entire braking system, a fresh set of radial tires, has taken it to a few local car shows, and he's enjoyed it as a runaround driver.  It's far from perfect but it's a relatively rare and desirable model with a lot of cool factor, it comes with the Birth Certificate from Volkswagen confirming its authenticity as a factory original Ragtop car, it has some neat vintage accessories, and it is a good candidate to relax and enjoy without worrying about getting stone chips or door dings on if it was to be used as a regular driver here in 2018.

Some of the neat features to note include:

*Factory original Ragtop Sunroof
*Working Original Semaphores
*Popout Windows
*European Fluted Headlights
*Original Shifter Lock
*Rear Window Blinds
*Robri Gravel Guards and Boot Scraper
*Accessory Gauge Cluster
*Under Dash Parcel Shelf
The more you look, the more you see.

The body is in fair condition, received a driver quality respray in the beautiful original color of Fjord Blue in Europe many years ago, and is showing wear and years now.  There are lots of little dings, chips, imperfections, several spots with some rust blisters and brushed in touch ups around, but it still displays nicely for a driver.  The front bullet blinkers were added long ago and this is a factory semaphore turn signal car.  The original pan is impressively solid although there are a few small spots with issues, mostly on the lower body.

The interior has a lot of originality intact including the cool European cloth seat upholstery and the door panels, too.  They are remarkably nice for being nearly 60 years old.  Other details to note include the cloth headliner, the square weave carpeting, the dash grab handle, badges, and correct original early steering wheel, too.

Mechanically this 1959 is stock and has a 36hp engine, stock split case transaxle, 6 volt system, and stock 2 toned 15 inch smoothie wheels with newer radial tires with good tread.  He went through the brake system and replaced everything with the exception of the center metal line as it was in good shape.  It has been an around town driver and has attended a few local Utah events, too.

A couple of nice extras that are included are a spare December 1958 36hp engine case and an extra December 1958 transaxle, too.

Here's your chance to get yourself a fun and unusual early European Ragtop Beetle that isn't too nice to enjoy regularly.  Thanks!
