1960 European Karmann Kabriolett, Super Stylish Cal Cruiser!
This
early Convertible Beetle has a healthy dose of attitude and timeless
traditional California styling. Radically lowered stance, chromed
Porsche Fuchs style alloys, working original semaphores, CB Performance
disc brakes/dropped spindle setup, and fresh and clean red interior.
Now is the time as Spring and Summer are the perfect seasons to drop the
top and cruise the beach in this head turner.
Some of the many neat
features include being a true European spec Convertible, extremely solid
car with great bones throughout, accessory red tipped semaphore switch,
hood lock, locking glove box, original convertible decklid,
reproduction Albert swan neck mirrors, dual mount antenna,
Sapphire radio, correct Karmann badge, accessory cheese grater
exhaust trim, original
convertible rear window, European
symmetrically fluted headlight lenses, European chrome bumper blades
with accessory rubber bumpers, gravel guards, and a rare accessory
passengers side sunvisor.
The body is very solid with great heater
channels and sills. The paint is a older driver class respray that is
showing its age and I'd classify it as a "20 footer". The issues I
spotted include a small blistered spot on the lower door edge, the rear
apron was replaced long ago with a newer style apron, the firewall was
trimmed alongside the heater boxes on each side (a complete original
firewall section comes with the car), the decklid is an original
Convertible lid but the rain tray was removed, and the original flat
hood has the typical kink crack near the prop. Additionally the front
door handles were changed out for the earlier icepick style handles.
The top frame is in good shape, retracts nicely and smoothly, and is
very solid and clean. The
original chrome top latches are also nice and move freely as they
should.
The interior is fresh and clean with recent TMI door
panels, seat covers, and a matching carpet kit having been installed.
The dash is in great shape and features both the correct locking hood
system and locking glove box door latch. The steering wheel was also
replaced with a very nice original 1956-1959 unit. The seats are very
comfortable, the headliner is new, as is the heavy canvas top.
Mechanically
this early Convertible features a good running 1600 single port engine
and good working stock transaxle. The suspension has been dramatically
and properly lowered with a 6 inch narrowed front beam, CB Performance
dropped spindles, adjusters, and a CB Performance front disc brake
system for added stopping power. The rear features Porsche pattern
drilled drum brakes and has been dropped via turned spring plates. The
wheels are new
reproduction Porsche Fuchs style with 4.5 inch fronts and
5.5 inch rears all wrapped in good quality 135 front and 195/60 rear
tires with excellent tread. The electrical system has additionally been
converted to 12 volts for faster starts, brighter lights, and added
reliability in general. It's a great mechanical combination for power,
reliability, and freeway worthiness.
This is a rare early
Convertible with a great look, just the right amount of tasteful period
accessories, and its' ready for heavy duty cruising with the top down.
Thanks!
