1960 Original Paint Sealing Wax Red Single Cab
With "NOS" Canvas!
This early Sealing Wax Red Single Cab is a patina lovers dream. Extremely cool fade on a unusual and
desirable original early Commercial Bus color, bone stock throughout,
just the pure essence of a survivor Truck. Great care has been taken to
keep this Truck as correct, original, and authentic as possible and it
shows.
The body is approximately 95% factory original Sealing Wax Red paint
while the bumpers have
been resprayed in their correct color of Silver White. Even the front
emblem, original
15" Bus wheels, and correct grey commercial hubcaps are original paint!
The logos are merely vinyl decals and can be easily removed without
harm if desired. The battery tray has a new
replacement section riveted over the original and it has been sprayed in
Sealing
Wax Red. The Truck bed is very straight and solid with only some minor
waves in a few small places. The rockers, doglegs, jack points, frame,
and undercarriage are all dry and solid. There is a small area on one
rocker that is beginning to show signs of an issue but for now it has no
holes. Overall I'd say that
no rust work needs to be performed anytime soon and that this one
should continue on as it is in its true survivor condition, enjoyed as
it is.
The interior is all original, paint, interior panels, seat cover, floor
mat, sunvisor, etc. The dash is in beautiful
original condition, shiny paint, no cuts, just plain nice. There is a
working Blaupunkt AM/FM radio in it but only the FM band is working.
How often do you see a working original radio in a old Bus? A couple of
upgrades in the cab include a original paint Ambulance Fan and a fully
restored 70mph clear needle speedo that had a trip meter added to it.
Mechanically it has proven to be an extremely reliable runner over
the last handful of years. Fires right up, runs smooth, and doesn't
miss a beat.
The engine is a rebuilt 1200cc 40hp completely machined and
blueprinted, case lapped and line bored, new standard main bearings,
ground and polished crank, new cam and lifters, fully rebuilt heads with
new valve guides, case savers used on the head studs, and the case was
welded behind #3 for added strength. All of the work was performed by
Conemac Precision of Canoga Park, a shop that solely rebuilds air cooled
VW and Porsche motors. Other recently replaced parts include the
starter, generator, coil,
distributor, and carburetor. Additionally, a correct fuel pump, carb,
and distributor were all recently restored by Ed Fall and can be
negotiated into the deal. The brake system was completely and
professionally rebuilt just a few years back with a new master cylinder,
rubber lines, wheel cylinders,
new axle seals and repacked wheel bearings. The steering box was also
rebuilt and is nice and tight. There are just over 8,000 miles on
the engine and other mechanical work. The transaxle is the original
split case and was rebuilt just a few hundred miles ago. This Truck
runs very well and drives nicely, too. The Truck sits on a set of
correct size and style 6.40-15
Firestone bias plies that are a few years old as well.
Lastly, the "icing on the cake" is the "NOS" canvas mounted on original
hoops. It has been mounted a few times to display at shows and shows
some minor stains in a few spots as something was spilled on it when in
storage, however, I don't think I've ever seen a nicer one in my life.
Overall, this one is fully turnkey, ready to enjoy, a purists dream, truly one to fall in love with. Thanks!
