1961 Standard Microbus

1961 Mango Green and Seagull Grey Standard Microbus, Original Paint, Very Nice Bus!

I will start by simply saying that this is without a doubt one of the finest early Buses on the open market.  You simply do not find early Buses with this nice and rust free of a body nor as strong and shiny of original paint!

This Bus was originally delivered to Boston back in 1961 and lived on the East Coast until 2008.  It obviously was incredibly well-cared-for, was stored out of the elements, and never saw any inclement weather as is evidenced by the phenomenal rust free body.  We believe that the 98,000 miles showing on the odometer is probably the original miles on the Bus as well.

Some of the many features include original paint, an excellent original un-welded body, all 3 rows of correct early seats, all new correct Caramel interior, having the desirable factory option of 6 popout windows with the long spoon popout latches, 5 brand new Firestone bias ply tires, low miles on a rebuilt 1600 single port engine, having just been fully serviced, the list goes on...

The body is in unbelievably good original condition.  The Bus has never been welded and is still in the original Mango Green and Seagull Grey paint.  You can see some light fade through on the roof and around the belt line but the paint is still very thick and holds a great shine.  The Bus honestly looks so good that most people mistakenly assume it's an older respray rather than the original paint that it is.  All of the body parts are correct including the thick lipped doglegs, cab doors, cargo doors, church key decklid, rear apron, flat wheel wells, slash cut bumpers, etc.  The bumpers and wheels were repainted in the correct L82 Silver White and look awesome.  The nose is simply perfect and even still has the original paint emblem with the Seagull Grey paint stroke still present between the V and the W.  A peek beneath the original floor mats and on the underside of the Bus are testimony to precisely how nice and bone dry this Bus really is.  Additionally all of the glass is original-to-the-Bus and correct Sigla logoed with the exception of the 2 vent wing pieces.  All of the body and window rubber is also new including the often-overlooked front slider window felt channels.

The interior is beautiful, fresh, complete, and very faithful to original as well.  All 3 correct early seats including the metal grab bar middle and hump-back front were completely refreshed by Octavio Gutierrez including sand blasting and powdercoating the seat frames, new Wolfsburg West seat pads, and excellent quality Caramel upholstery, too.  The interior panels are beautiful and came from Lenny at West Coast Classics.  The mohair headliner was also professionally installed and looks great as you can see.  Other details to note include the correct seat kick panels, the original-to-the-Bus rubber floor mats, uncut original paint dash with radio blockoff plate still intact, NOS Caramel armrests, German square weave carpet on the rear luggage shelf, and the correct interior handles, too.

Mechanically the Bus is fully turnkey and just made a successful trip from San Diego to Long Beach for the recent OCTO Bus show.  It features a very good-running and low mile 1600 single port engine, stock fully synchronized reduction box transaxle, all new brakes, 5 new Firestone 6.40-15 bias ply tires, and the electrical system has been converted to 12 volts, too.  Other details to note include new shocks, new axle boots, and mint chrome hubcaps with correctly painted logos, too.

This is truly an excellent and very lovable Bus that is precisely the kind of example I recommend for long-term enjoyment and investment.  Thanks!
