1964 Westy SO34 Survivor

1964 Westfalia SO34 Flipseat, All Original, Untouched!  Located in BELGIUM!

Here we have a beautiful, desirable, relatively rare, superbly original, rock solid, and virtually untouched survivor 1964 Westy Camper.  The Bus was discovered in the United States and was recently imported to its new home in Belgium.  It has successfully managed to steer clear of modifications, accidents, "updates", and repaints over the last 47 years!

This exceptional SO34 was originally delivered in Holland as part of the "tourist delivery" program and was later shipped home to the United States with the original owner.  All of the license plates that it has worn over the years including the original Dutch set are still with the Bus and will be included in the sale.  Another remarkable detail is that the very rare original SO34 brochure is still with the Bus after all these years.  Although the mileage cannot be proven the typical wear areas and the positive and tight feel on the road lead the professionals who have personally inspected the Bus to firmly believe that the 89,000 miles showing on the odometer is in fact the actual mileage on the Bus!

Its many features include all original Turkis and Blue White paint on the completely honest original body including original Silver White paint on the bumpers and wheels, a extremely dry body, super nice and mostly original interior, the original running gear including the bone stock original matching numbers engine, original side "privy" tent in as-new condition, super valuable and typically missing original Westfalia "chandelier" light, original manuals, fully operational original accessory ambulance side step, original long hatchtop Westy woodslat roof rack, original front flipseat, and the seats have been painstakingly restored with exactly reproduced upholstery that was custom woven for this Bus by textile experts!

The body in excellent original condition displaying original Turkis and Blue White paint in very strong condition.  Even the nicest "survivor" Buses typically see touch ups, blending, and so frequently the bumpers and wheels are resprayed.  However, this Bus has lead such a dry and above average care-filled life that the bumpers and wheels still display nicely in their original Silver White paint!  There are some light bonks and dings around as you'd expect from a nearly half-century old Camper but it is still as honest as can be with a great and natural presentation.  There is a spot of rust on the lower corner back by the battery, likely from acid leakage many years ago.  The front floors have seen some paint wear and depending upon your tastes you might want to neutralize that area before it becomes a real issue.  Other than that, this Bus is as good as rust free!  The doors, decklid, apron, and slash cut bumpers are all proper and original as well.  Take a look at the underside and you'll clearly see that this Bus is dry!

The SO34 Westfalia Flipseat interior is in exceptional condition and is virtually all original as well.  You simply never see them this nice and this one is complete down to the original German square weave carpeting, rear marble mat, birch wood paneling, superb white Formica cabinets, the previously mentioned rare original chandelier drop light, the wedge cushions, pale yellow curtains, pressed board cab panels, hatch top hardware, etc.  The dash is in beautiful condition with original Blue White paint, the factory radio blockoff plate still intact, and a super clean proper speedo showing what is believed to be the original mileage at just under 89,000.  Take note of the original black vent wing window latches still being intact on both sides, another sign of a virgin and non-abused Bus!  The steering wheel is also in excellent original condition without the typical topside ring wear and multitude of cracks and chunks missing that you'll see all too often on the average Bus.  The front floor mat is also original and lastly the front namesake "flipseat" has been professionally recovered in an exactingly reproduced upholstery that the owner went to incredible lengths to get just right in not only appearance but in texture as well.  That attention to detail helps to maintain the proper vintage appeal from all of the senses not merely what the eye sees!

Mechanically this Westfalia is fully turnkey and features the bone stock original 1500cc single port engine, stock tunnel case fully synchronized reduction box transaxle, and the electrical system is still the original 6 volts as well.  It runs and drives just as it should although it certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a general light servicing to refresh things to their maximum potential.  The Bus handles and feels great on the road, just as a true low-miler should.  The tires are nice mud tires although we feel that the Bus is such a pure time capsule that it is screaming for a set of proper 7.00-14 bias ply tires.

This is a truly exceptional survivor of a SO34 Westfalia Camper with so many of the typically worn and missing original components and accessories that with a little loving detail time could be brought to the maximum of its potential and be one of the nicest survivors of its kind worldwide.
