1966 21 Window Deluxe, Original Titian Red and Beige Grey Paint, Cool Reliable Driver!
This
1966 21 Window Deluxe
Sunroof Microbus is still displaying the vast majority of its original
Titian Red and Beige Grey paint and has been thoroughly revived to make
it a great Bus to drive and enjoy.
Some of the many features
include having original mesh platinum interior panels, all 3
generationally correct bench seats complete with kick panels, being a
desirable factory 6 popout window model, having a restored and working
Sapphire II radio, a optional
Southwind gasoline heater system, an era appropriate and great running
"H case" 1500 single port engine from another 1966 Deluxe Bus, and
everything works including headlights, high beams, taillights, turn
signals including self-cancelling, radio, dome lights, horn, wipers, gas
gauge, reverse light, and even the Deluxe clock keeps accurate time!
The
body is displaying the vast majority of the original paint and the nose
was resprayed at one point after it was pushed in a bit and then worked
back out. Other than that, it's all original paint. The Bus is
generally very straight as you can see and has a very cool natural fade,
too. All of the doors, pointed end bumpers complete with correct
pointed Deluxe trim, 14 inch Bus wheels with original Deluxe trim rings,
and polished aluminum trim are correct as well. The roof and original
belly pans are well above average. There is some rust around that you
will
clearly see in
the huge album of pics at the link below.
The areas mostly include some spots on the rockers, the front floor,
many in the cargo floor area, and some other spots in the door seal
rubber channeling. The Bus has been and can continue to be enjoyed as
it is or with proper welding and paint blending, it could be an even
better Bus. The sunroof cover and skylight seals were recently replaced
as well.
The interior includes a full set of correct Mesh
Platinum panels in fair condition, all 3 era-appropriate bench seats
complete with proper kick panels, jailbars, and the rear seat Deluxe
luggage bar, too. The front and rear seats were recently recovered with
proper covers and fresh cotton padding and the middle seat is an
original Salt and Pepper that could use recovering to match the others.
The dash is in nice shape with strong original Beige Grey paint and is
complete with the previously mentioned working gas gauge, restored
Sapphire II by Bendix radio and reconed
speaker, and the working and accurate Deluxe clock. The Bus has been
lined with sound deadening behind the panels and is very quiet on the
road. It's actually so quiet that it's hard to hear the engine at idle.
Mechanically
the Bus is fully turnkey, bone stock, and very reliable. It has seen
extensive revival work in the last few years. The engine is a bone
stock 1500 single port with many correct little details and it runs very
well. Some of the details include a NOS coil, NOS voltage regulator,
remanufactured 1966 only generator, proper rebuilt carburetor, correct
rebuilt fuel pump, and Rimco installed a brand new ring gear on the
200mm flywheel. Additionally both the starter and Interstate battery
are new. The transaxle is stock, shifts nicely, doesn't growl nor jump
out of gear. The
tires are radials with fair to good tread, the front wheel cylinders
were just replaced, and all 4 Boge shocks are new, too. The electrical
system is also the stock 6 volts and as mentioned previously, everything
works.
This Bus is ready for action and is a great one to relax and enjoy as it
is or do some improvement work on to produce an even nicer survivor. Thanks!
