1966 Cal Style Patina Beetle, Original Paint, Cool Cruiser!
This
perfectly sun faded 1966 Beetle has an awesome look, great stance, and
just the right amount of tasteful and traditional custom
Cal Look touches to tie the whole package together.
It is a genuine dry desert car that was purchased 6 years ago from the Beetle Barn in
Las
Vegas, Nevada where it had been sitting since 1972! The car was
gone through extensively and has been a daily driver for the owner for 3
years now.
It has many features including a powder coated pan, a
"new" Mexican
crate motor that now has approximately 20,000 miles on it, a pro street
trans, front disc brakes, narrowed beam, dropped spindles, aftermarket
Sprint Star wheels, Flat 4 shifter, original VW accessory parcel shelf,
new Empi dash pad, German square weave carpeting, rear popout windows,
new wiring harness with 12 volt conversion, and much more!
The
body is in pretty good and very solid shape displaying mostly original
L360 Sea Blue paint with the perfect desert sun fading. The front was
crunched years ago hence the primered fender which isn't a bad match
really. There is a tiny bit of rust in one of the rear bumper supports
but not horrible. The pan was redone and powder coated with the help of
the guys at Octavio's in
Orange County
a handful of years back. All of the black parts were powder coated as
well. Additionally there are some chips in the windshield.
The
interior is in pretty tidy condition and was
refreshed as necessary. There is
a bit of paint peeling on the dash and a spot on the rear of the
headliner has started to come untucked. The carpet was replaced with
proper German square weave, a new Empi dash pad was installed, a new
Flat 4 shifter, and a genuine VW accessory parcel shelf was installed as
well.
Mechanically this Beetle is turnkey and reliable having
been driven roughly 20,000 miles over the last 3 years. The "new"
Mexican crate motor, a 1600 dual port, was installed at the time of the
revival and now has 20,000 miles on it. Additionally the car has a pro
street trans that has been raised 1 inch and features Type 3 rear brakes
for better stopping power. The front end has been narrowed, has
dropped spindles, and disc brakes as well. The wheels are aftermarket
Sprint Stars and have good radial tires on them. The wiring harness was
also replaced, the electrical system was converted to 12 volts, and the
car features
brighter H4 headlights and the stronger "self supporting" automatic
starter, too.
This car has a lot to offer in the way of a great
patina look, solid and road proven mechanicals, and tasteful custom
touches. Thanks!
