1967 European Standard Sunroof Microbus with Sliding Door!
Are
you after a cool early Bus that is out of the ordinary? This absolutely
legitimate 1967 European Standard Sunroof Microbus with Sliding Cargo
Door is most definitely a rare one that will stand out in any crowd. No
hacks on this one, it's the real deal genuine article. Over the years
this Bus has been in the stables of some of the biggest and most highly
regarded Bus collectors in California.
Some of its many features
include the factory sunroof, factory sliding cargo door option, being a
genuine European specification Bus with blade bumpers, split bucket
taillights with original amber and red lenses, factory locking steering
column/fahrt start
ignition system, and a
kilometer speedometer. It is also a desirable factory 6 popout window
Bus, has had a
set of safari windows added, and also features a properly lowered
suspension, fresh 1600
dual port with dual
carbs, built transaxle, Porsche alloys, Old Speed front disc brake
conversion, factory 12 volt electrics, all 3 rows of seats, and much
more!
The body is in good shape and is currently wearing a older one
time repaint over the original Sea Blue and Cumulus White paint. There
is a little rust around including some small sections of the rain
gutters and a little on the lower nose in the typical spot above the
bumper. It is very straight and dry otherwise and the original belly
pans are in very nice shape as well. All of the doors, decklid, apron,
etc. are correct for the Bus, too.
The interior is mostly original
and shows a bit of wear in a few spots but is still respectable,
comfortable, and functional as well. The seats have the correct salt
and pepper pattern material on them, the middle cover was replaced and
is a bit loose, and the door panels are original as is the headliner.
The dash is still wearing original
paint and even has the correct 1967 radio delete plate still in place.
A stereo system has also been added with the unit and speakers having
been mounted on the bottom of the parcel tray to avoid hacking the dash
and the front door panels like happened all too often decades ago.
Mechanically
the Bus has a long list of upgrades and performance features including a
fresh 1600 dual port built by VW Paradise in Southern California. It
has loads of cool bits including forged pistons, a counter weighted
crank, 009 distributor, new alternator, Bosch blue coil, Engle 100 cam
with straight cut gears, lightened flywheel, Kennedy performance clutch,
new dual Kadron carburetors, and a EMPI header and muffler system. It
runs great with plenty of power and looks as good as it goes. The
transaxle came from Rancho Performance and is a freeway flyer unit
including new axles, welded 3rd and 4th gears, and heavy duty side
plates. The cost
of the transaxle was approximately $1,000 alone. The suspension
features a narrowed beam, adjusters, dropped spindles, and a straight
axle rear conversion. Russell at Old Speed built a front disc brake
setup and a set of polished Porsche alloys were added as well. The Bus
is a great driver, very comfortable ride for a lowered Bus, it has
plenty of power and plenty of stopping power, too.
This very rare
combination of factory options coupled with the tasteful and traditional
California Look performance upgrades make for one super cool Bus that
will certainly bring a proud smile to the face of a lucky new owner.
Thanks!
